Marsha Chien Discusses Worker Retaliation Laws

Skadden Fellow Marsha Chien co-authored an article for the Daily Journal about new California laws that expressly bar employers from taking adverse action against an employee for exercising any right under the California Labor Code; filing or participating in a complaint before the Department of Labor Standards and Enforcement; whistle-blowing; or participating in political activity or a civil suit against an employer ("Laws Give California Workers More Protection From Retaliation," Feb. 24.). "These new laws enhance anti-retaliation protections for all California employees, but are perhaps most important for immigrant workers. Retaliation is widespread in industries that employ low-wage and immigrant workers," the article said.
