JJ Rosenbaum and Karen Tumlin Secure Policy Against Detention of Suspected Illegal Immigrants

A settlement in New Orleans involving former Skadden Fellows JJ Rosenbaum (’03) and Karen Tumlin (’05) — under which the sheriff will stop honoring certain requests from the federal authorities to detain people suspected of being here illegally — was the subject of a New York Times article (“New Orleans and U.S. in Standoff on Detentions,” Aug. 12). JJ, the legal director for the New Orleans Workers’ Center for Racial Justice, said the city’s policy “very clearly locks [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement] out of the jail. … It shows the consensus that has been reached citywide.”
