Chaumtoli Huq Pushes for US Cooperation With Factory Safety Measures

Former Skadden Fellow Chaumtoli Huq (’99) appeared on MSNBC’s “Up With Steve Kornacki” to discuss the building collapse in Bangladesh and what Americans can do to help raise international levels of standards for workers’ rights. Chaumtoli pointed out that the majority of retailers who signed on to a recent global accord designed to improve safety in Bangladeshi factories have been U.K. retailers. “I think that the United States and the American public really need to push on our retailers to sign on to health and safety measures. This is a human rights issue. This is not a different-labor-standards-for-differentcountries issue,” said Chaumtoli, who is a professor at New York Law School.
