Former Skadden Fellows Mary Vargas (’98) and Michael Stein (’07) of the civil rights law firm Stein & Vargas helped secure a victory in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit on behalf of Michael Argenyi, who was a medical student at Creighton University. Argenyi sued the school under Title III of the Americans With Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act for refusing various requests to accommodate his hearing impairment. The U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska granted summary judgment to the university, but on Jan. 15 the Eighth Circuit reversed, finding “strong evidence” that Creighton’s accommodations were inadequate.
