Former Skadden Fellow Julie Robie (’04) was quoted in a Cleveland Plain Dealer article about a decision issued by Ohio’s Ninth District Court of Appeals saying payday lenders cannot use the state’s mortgage lending law to evade a 28 percent interest rate cap on short-term loans (“State Appeals Court Restricts Payday Lenders’ Interest Rates,” Dec. 3). Julie, who was one of the principal drafters of an amicus brief submitted by a statewide legal aid team in the case, said the decision “makes it crystal clear that these lenders cannot make loans in a way that nullifies the state’s short-term lending act.” Julie is managing attorney at the Consumer Law Practice Group of the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland.
