Elizabeth Saylor Helps Bring Race Discrimination Case Against Building Owner

Former Skadden Fellow and New York City attorney Elizabeth Saylor (’02) was quoted in a New York Times article about a race discrimination case she helped bring against the owner and superintendent of an apartment building in Queens (“Lawsuit Claims Racial Discrimination at a Building in Sunnyside,” Dec. 5). As part of an investigation, black and white women were sent to the building to inquire about apartments; the black woman was told that none were available, but the white woman was shown a vacant unit. Elizabeth said such investigations are one of the only ways to expose discrimination. “Systemic housing discrimination still persists throughout New York City, and most of this discrimination is not known because of the subtle and stealthy nature of the housing discrimination,” Elizabeth said.
